That's not really the question here. We're talking about a special build system on MacOS X, which is supposed to support a "package" for the Gtkmm 2.0 API, only now this support is broken. There's still a question of whether anybody will actually use it, of course, but gtk and gtkmm 1.2 are also supported, if you know what I'm saying...

macports has gtk/x11 for OS X.

for gtk/quartz, i'd recommend building GTK from jhbuild. recent gtkmm
works fine with it. even an old version works fine here except for the
tooltip API change/deprecation.

you must be using a really old version of gtkmm, or have some other
problem.
I think you're missing the point. I'm specifically trying to build an old gtkmm version because as you may recall, versions prior to 2.4 had a different API from more recent ones. I don't particularly want to use this version (or maybe I do in order to support some some old source code that I don't care to upgrade, but that's not the point now) - I'm just trying to make sure it is possible to build a lib with the "old" API if you want to.

And I'm talking about MacPorts; maybe this wasn't as obvious as I though from my original post. There is a separate port for "Gtkmm 2.0", and it's broken, and I wanted to see if I could fix it, since I actually wrote the "portfile" for it a long time ago.
