all hell has broken loose in Real Life since the 1.04x releases, and
1.050 (the next devel series) is about two weeks behind now. we have a
few things in HEAD that could stand being put into the stable series
(threadsafety fixes, etc), so another stable release from the 1.04x
series is not inconceivable.
with that, your change does not alter the API, just whether you get a
"Use of uninitialized value in subroutine entry" warning when passing
undef for the name. i have no problem with this going into stable --
in fact, it's probably a good idea.
