of course, FooCanvas is said by some to be the future. GnomeCanvas is
dead in the water. OTOH, it works and works pretty well (see
http://ardour.org/ for some screenshots showing it in heavy usage).
the day the GTK+ project actually sanctions a particular canvas might be
the day i switch to Qt :)
