I am using Linux Slackware and X and Gtk+ and for that matter Anjuta as an IDE.
Do you by any chance have a small GTK+ C example that I could look at?
There is nothing custom about the Gtk+ code, its all about your X setup,
the touchscreen has to come across as core pointer.
Exactly. The touchscreen looks just like a mouse, so any program should
work with it, including the Gtk+ hello program from the tutorial:
http://www.gtk.org/tutorial/ch-gettingstarted.html#SEC-HELLOWORLD
The only "special" thing you will have to do is to come up with a "big
buttons" theme to make it usable, and even doing that doesn't require
custom Gtk+ code.

GOOD TIMING on this question!
I need to set up a small point of sale system for a small business my
wife & I bought last spring. So far I have not found any apps that
suit my fancy and was thinking of modifying one or creating my own
specialized app. So far I have only been doing python/pygtk coding for
a system package manager gui front end. It sounds like it should be no
problem to set something up for a touchscreen (if & when I can afford
one).
