Hopefully, this is now fixed in the GTK+ sources:

        Guard against g_get_home_dir() returning NULL. (#150007)

This fix went into GTK+ 2.4.7 which was just released. (I.e. the
source code. No binaries for Windows yet. Later today, maybe.)
