There is reference documentation at
http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/pango/pango.html

(This is also available through the Debian package libpango1.0-doc in
/usr/share/doc/libpango1.0-doc/pango/ ).

If you are already using FreeType, it would seem pango_ft2_render()
would be the function to begin reading about.
