No special libraries - just what was installed with Fedora 16. No remote filesystems. There are no raw image files in this folder.

Make a copy of the problem folder, and try deleting files from it in batches, to see if
you can isolate particular problem files.

The directory with the problem is named '2011-06'. I moved the first 140 files from '2011-06' to a separate folder 'save', and the remainder of the images in '2011-06' loaded fast. And those in 'save' also loaded fast.

I then moved batches of 10 images from 'save' back to '2011-06'. After 3 batches, the problem returned to '2011-06'. I then moved the last batch from '2011-06' back to 'save', and moved them one at a time from 'save' to '2011-06'. I found a single image, 'g6162725.jpg', that caused the problem in '2011-06'. There is nothing special that I can see about this image file. However, this may be a clue:
