How does gthumb decide what directories to show in the LH panel?
When I open gthumb at present I get a very odd selection:-
Home Folder
pictures
chris
.desktop
chris
File System
Catalogues
The first 6 entries are supposed to correspond to:
"Home Folder"
G_USER_DIRECTORY_PICTURES
G_USER_DIRECTORY_VIDEOS
G_USER_DIRECTORY_DESKTOP
G_USER_DIRECTORY_DOCUMENTS
"file:///"
The "G_USER" directories are "standard" directories like
"~/Pictures" and "~/Desktop". Do they not exist on your system?
No, because I get seriously fed up with the system creating them in my
home directory where I don't want them! :-) I want my home directory to
have the directory names *I* specify.
I'd really prefer to be able to specify what I want in gthumb too,
rather than having the above four directories whether I like it or not.
I prefer a clean/minimalist setup so I'd really like just one or two top
level directories visible there. I have done it the 'correct' way by
modifying $(XDG_CONFIG_HOME)/user-dirs.dirs.
You can manipulate the definitions of those folders - see:
http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xdg-user-dirs
... and it says:-
Note: To disable a directory, point it to the homedir.
It appears that gthumb doesn't recognise this because I have both
XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR and XDG_VIDEOS_DIR set to homedir but gthumb is still
showing them as separate entries (the two 'chris' ones). Can I report
this as a bug?
I really want only:-

File System
Catalogues
