Pasting screenshots to show the difference in status bar location. In my gnumeric (slitaz), the "Sum=0" area appears separately (below) the "sheet" bar. Also all the sheets are shown, and no draggable seperator here.
I have gnumeric 1.8.4 on my slitaz.

While I don't know what you mean with them being "separate", SLITaz
currently has Gnumeric 1.10.12 (the latest release of Gnumeric) while
lubuntu 10.10 has a slightly older Gnumeric.
