I don't see this with gnumeric from the slitaz package reporsitory - the "status" bar is separate from the "sheet" bar and I can see all the sheets!!
I was earlier using gnumeric from lubuntu 10.10.
I switched from lubuntu to slitaz and now am overjoyed to see this problem go away.

I am really not sure what Openoffice.org has to do with this. In the
design of OpenOffice.org (3.2) you loose the horizontal scrollbar
instead. There surely are some people (including I) who wouldn't like
that.
