Thanks Andreas! I read the messages in that region for the first time today.
Yes, I know about the draggable seperator.
When I open this sheet, I would like to see all my sheets and in the remaining space this region (which shows various messages). I have attached my sheet for reference. If I open the same sheet in OpenOffice then I can see all my sheets without having to resize anything.

The region in question is the status bar that shows various messages
when you open or save files, select menu items etc.
There is a dragable separator to change the space allocation for it, but
I think you know that.
