Please note that I am using Gnumeric on an quad opteron (64bit) and have
several hundred other users also using it on that platform, so I doubt
that this is a 64bit issue.

Which settings were you using to compile gnumeric? Normally I would not
expect Gnumeric to use .gnumericrc at all. It looks like you are not
using Gnome. What desktop are you using?

The info below seems to indicate me that you may be using an old
incompatible version of goffice.
