This is a known bug in 0.56 and in the way I've implemented borders.
The behavior in 0.57 should be better although still not quite
ideal.  I'm not clear what you mean by 'corners seem unfinished'

You can easily resize the header/footer sizes into nothingness this
will clip them out of the way.  This setting is saved.
