Dear all:
I am a little bit confused with the patent of G.723.1 codec in openh323. I don't know whether the patent is on the codec only or on the ITU-T G.723.1 standard itself. I really wanna add G.723.1 codec to openh323 and it seems that openh323 does have a skeleton of G.723.1 . it is an empty codec using ITU-T test code. I tested the ITU-T ANSI C codec, the encoding is poorly slow, decoding has no problem.
So it's easy to add G.723.1 codec to openh323 except the optimization of sourcecode. I am not sure if there is anyone dealing with G.723.1 codec. By the way, I need your explanation and advises, on the patent, codecs and so on, before I can settle on the work.
What's more, the TMN code of H.263 has the same problem. The encoding is shabbily slow(decoding is fine). So the optimization is huge on TMN code of H.263 and even optimized, it may not possibly work efficiently in software. Maybe we need another codec.
