That's not too much, but it means he will not have anymore the Firewire
device and the V4L device concurrently in the same list, he will have to
change of plugin to use one or the other. But usually he will use the
same device all the time, so that is not a problem and there is no other
way to do. Problem is that some plugins are incompatible (exclusive use,
like V4L and V4L2), some are not (Firewire, V4L). There is simply no way
to cope with that in a GUI.

Btw, you had chosen the correct device for your mic. You just wanted the
Webcam mic, not the soundcard mic, but I don't see the relationship with
the current discussion. Anyway...
