Re: windows stuck

Hi,

thank you for the reply. I'm trying to reproduce the problem, but its very hard haha. I have a little bit information from the .xsession-errors file. The situation now was a terminal window that was maximized and over that a skype chat window that was half over the screen (by dragging it against the right border of the screen. Does that have a name?). When the desktop is 'stuck' i can scroll the terminal windows, which is beneath the skype window that is active. I can type in the skype chat, but if I click the bar of the terminal screen, this appears in the log:

    (gnome-terminal:13212): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_events: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    (gnome-terminal:13212): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

then, when i press the alt-tab combination for switch the screen, nothing happens, except these logs appear:

JS LOG: pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed
JS LOG: pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed
JS LOG: pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed

One time also this message came by:

Window manager warning: Invalid WM_TRANSIENT_FOR window 0x320000c specified for 0x3218ba4 (Choose Fil).

The strange thing, at some point I got out of this, but have no idea what I did, and started writing the email, and it didnt happen anymore. The skype window is smaller now, and the evolution email screen is maximized. This could be a coincidence maybe?

And one time I clicked the skype screen, this appears:

Window manager warning: Got a request to focus 0x320205a (Ruth | swe) with a timestamp of 0.  This shouldn't happen!

Ill attempt to post a bug soon, but have to find some time. Would it be enough if I post this story?

Cheers

Peter

Please file a bug at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=gnome-shell

The most interesting information for the developers is the contents of
your ~/.xsession-errors file right after the problem happened. Also
specify the version of Ubuntu you're using on the machine where the bug
happens.

Intel, maybe; please tell on the report what's your exact graphics card,
(see the output of lspci). Qt, it's hard to tell - does the problem
happen only with Qt apps running?
