visual bell in mutter/gnome-shell ?

Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to have a support of the visual bell in gnome-shell, ideally with a notification such as a 'demands-attention signal'. I work on various machines/Oses so I cannot use zenity.
i was thinking of using the visible bell, with perhaps an extension to cath it, but I don't know where to start.

Has anyone an idea ?
