This doesn't happen if you give the VM focus. It was a problem
in version 3.x of VMWare, but 4.x works this way. I've got a system
here with hotplug, and it works perfectly like that, because VMWare
grabs the device when the VM has focus, so hotplug can't load the
module to communicate with it.

Or use pilot-link 0.12.x with the native libusb support, and
stop using the visor module altogether ;)
