eep, i think that should do it. i've got the demo up at
www.shopindiego.net/gnome_test_specs/ and it seems to be working
properly. the index page uses a php script to generate a list of
modules, which in turn generate a list of submodules, etc., so in theory
you could just drop one in whereever it was needed and the system will
work flawlessly. however, you would need to ensure the new module
includes all of the session and form code for compatibilty with the
session management and cgi backend. basically, it works great for
making quick additions to the system, but for an 'offical' test module,
it's probably much saner to add it to the perl config files, same as
before.
the layout has also been completely reworked. cookies are now used for
each session to remember the platform values, and much of the extra
whitespace has been removed. i couldn't figure out where the
instruction html files are generated (or if they are at all...), so
there's still a lot of cruft there that could go. other than that, i
think it's ready to be tested, cleaned up, and presented to sun :)

in fact, we could fill

Ooh. Hadn't thought of that. Nice touch.
i'll take a look
at implementing that latter tonight :)
Awesome.
