Is there any way to "replace" the ownCloud client with any GNOME core
application that keeps permanent offline copies of cloud drives?
Not that I know of. GOA integration only creates a WebDAV folder to view/edit your documents online only.
There are several WebDAV file-sync utilities. Provided ownCloud
implements etags/ctags appropriately WebDAV sync works very well as
detecting remote changes is reliable and efficient.
