gnome.org only takes you to ximian if you click on their "Helix Code" link (they haven't updated the name yet). They (gnome.org) have a page devoted to installing from stable source tarballs. I had to build some parts from source since I had a problem which was causing the automatic helix/ximian install to fail. Here is the page:
