Re: file manager won't go away

Chris,
You could try checking in Startup Programs.  Go into Gnome Control
Center, Look under Session, then Startup Programs.  Any programs
configured to run at startup will be listed on the right-hand side.  If
the file manager is listed, highlight it then click the delete button.
