agreed for what its worth..i concur that I'd seriosly take a look at your
hardware...

i used gnome way back to redhat6.0..then 6.2..now =7.0 and frankly I ran away
from gnome till helix...now i swear by it and thanks to it i'm able to stay in
linux more and more often thank goodness...the helix updater has never done me
wrong to date i coudln't be happier with it :)

sorry you're having trouble though but again i believe i'd be looking to
hardware issues ..

or consider redhat 7.0 which i use and I now have NO issues with speed where
before I did..my menus were very slow to respond but now with xfree86-4.0 its
warp speed scottie.. :) ...i was very impressed and I don't impress easily..

good luck if you need more help likely someone here can help especially with
more info regarding your sytsem/changes...
