Stock 2.2.x doesn't have USB support.  You can apply a patch to 2.2.x kernels
to get experimental support though.  I think only simple devices like
keyboards and mice really work now.

You can try looking through the linux-kernel archives.  From there you can
probably find a Linux USB mailing list where you can ask all your questions.
