BadColor error

Scratched up the latest gnome-libs and imlib, and now all my gnome-apps
seem to bomb out with:

** ERROR **: BadColor (invalid Colormap parameter)
  serial 34 error_code 12 request_code 84 minor_code 0

right at gnome_init. Backtrace follows:

I'm baffled about this one. Running Gnome on an 8-bit X display, ZFree
3.1.2 I believe. Anyone got some insight on this?
