IMVHO, IRC is not something average computer users use a lot nowadays,
so moving to another network is far away from being something needed to
fulfill the 10x10 goal, or any goal which implies getting to more
computer users.

That is true, I exaggerated. On the other hand, the for the developers
that should write the software for the 10x10 goals 100+ million users,
IRC is very useful. And more developers and gnome contributors are
needed.

Merging the irc.gnome.org server with the Freenode network, or making
the domain redirect to a Freenode server would be trivial and would
hardly inconvenience anyone. It is not the most important thing to do,
just one small baby step in the right direction, IMO.
