I'd very much disagree. No documentation at all is still better than
wrong, misleading, frustrating documentation which wasted my time.

My experience is the opposite. In years I have improved a lot of bad
translations which I heard were used a lot by people with little or no
knowledge of English.

You can have the luxury to choose to read in original when you know the
language at a certain level. Not all people are so lucky as you,
especially in my country.

Also, letting beginners contribute with translations allows them to
improve by motivating them. On the other hand, being too fussy especially
at the beginning can have the effect of discouraging contributions and
turning away volunteers who approach for the first time active work in
the world of free software.
