Rodolfo, can you point out at free software that works this way?
It would be very interesting for translators to find out about it.
Translators mostly cannot use non-free software, so proprietary
software is out of question for most of us.
Christian was probably talking out of experience with msgfmt (which
does character-matching). I was told POEdit does word-matching
(instead of character-matching), which makes it faster, but also less
successful in case of words changing forms in small ways.
