Hi everybody.
I have recently use the
vicious-build-scripts to build gnome2
and, apparently, there is a problem in
i18n.
I'm in Brazil, so the locale should be
pt_BR, a variant from pt. But
everything got translated to pt, I
mean, Portuguese from Portugal. It
completely suX (no offense to
Portuguese guys, but I meant that I
cannot understand most of it).
Well, what can I do about it? I mean,
the strings *are* translated to
Portuguese from Brazil and are located
in pt_BR.po and pt_BR.gmo.
I searched this list's archive and
found the following:
"This is an old bug in gnome-libs,
where the strings under a sub locale
are never displayed for .desktop and
.directory files. I guess pt_BR is
the only locale visibly affected.
The guys at Conectiva have patched the
problem, so normally people in
Brazil don't complain about it. I've
heard the Conectiva patch was
refused by the gnome-libs maintainers,
so I suppose it wasn't a good fix
after all. I'm not sure about the
whole situation though, maybe someone
else can clarify it."
But then there was no more replies.
As I was contributing to gedit, I
renamed gedit's pt_BR.* to br.* and
changed LANG to br, and it seemed to
work. I thought that the component
handling the locale was only reading
the first two characters (and thus
used pt instead of pt_BR)... but I
haven't got a clue...
Anyone, suggestions? Please??? :-)
Thanks a lot in advance,
Marcel K. de Carli Silva (IME-USP BRAZIL)
