Floating windows with a floating toolbar is better than a big window (like a Windows MDI
interface) because of the user's ability to move tools around on the desktop where they
wish. However, the fact that the entire application is tied to the toolbar (instead of
exiting when the last window is closed, for example) was odd to me at first. I'd be much
happier of window-based programs used windows instead of tabs, etc. all the time. We use
a windowing interface for a reason.
