If the word "about" would be used as the "About" menu:
About:
version 13.47
author: Jow Smith
mail: js@somewhere.com
Silly isn't it.
For this kind of information (version ...)
we really should have a different menu entry,
e.g.: "Credits" or "Version"
About should give the user a short description of what the program does.
As in:
about:
A word pointing to the meaning or function of things.
e.g. "What is this about ?"
(Reference: About Face by Alan Cooper)
The help menu should have "Help" "About" "Credits"
Help: as it says
About: short description of the program
Credits: version, author, email
Ciao
Stephan
