ahoj,

hereby sending a draft for a gnome 2.18 showstopper review. like always,
please post any comments, chocolate or improvements within the next
twentyfiveandahalf hours - silence means compliance.
for further information or comments on the process itself, please feel
free to ignore http://live.gnome.org/Bugsquad/ShowstopperReviews .

for your interest, i've also poked some additional maintainers/folks on
bugs that are on the "best" way to become part of this list...

Subject: GNOME 2.18 Showstopper Review
To: d-d-l, r-t
===============================

having the hardcode freeze for gnome 2.18 in one week, i collected
another quick list to identify some of our worst current problems.
but generally, the situation with regard to the worst crashers has
drastically improved - see the end of the email for the changelog.

================================================
EOG
================================================
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379919
=> Port HEAD to use EogJobQueue

blocks bug 320206 which has 134 dups total.
claudio states that this cannot be addressed for 2.18, but will get in
for an early 2.19 state, so i set a 2.20 showstopper milestone.

================================================
EVOLUTION
================================================
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334966
=> Evolution crashes sometimes when closing main window

172 dups total, several attempts to fix this already, and still no
reliable way to reproduce this.
it seems like this only happens with "empty trash on exit" enabled, so
if somebody can reproduce this reliably, please test the patch attached
to comment 109, and make the evolution hackers (and of course especially
the evolution users) happy!

================================================
GNOME-TERMINAL
================================================
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348979
=> crash in Terminal.

142 dups total.
this still needs a better stacktrace, still not much info available.
perhaps anybody can help here and provide a better trace?

================================================
GTK+
================================================
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349697
=> crash on Open Folder

637 dups total, the worst bug currently.
according to comment 219, perhaps the fix for bug 396161 has also fixed
this issue, but we unfortunately don't know for sure. seems like time
(read: gtk+ >= 2.10.8) will tell... :-/

================================================
EPIPHANY
================================================
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353503
=> crash after theme change [ gtk_style_realize] [ gtk_style_ref]

106 dups total.
this is currently unfortunately blocked by an upstream mozilla bug, see
comment 60, so i don't expect some fast improvement. :-(

================================================
GEDIT
================================================
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354046
=> Crash in g_utf8_validate

162 duplicates so far, 47 in the last 30 days.

there is a not-the-perfect-code workaround patch available at comment
100 that would break the string freeze by adding a new error message.
paolo, what are your plans? :-)

================================================

Changes/Fixes since the last review[1]:
      * Theme-change bug 353498 (terminal) has been fixed
      * gst-streamer-ugly bug 336370 has been fixed
      * 166838 and 325988 are not important enough to be blockers
      * the longstanding g-s-t bug 356180 has been fixed

thanks,
andre
