George, are you running orca/gnopernicus/lsr to control the magnifier?
out of the box, gnome-mag's "magnifier" binary doesn't do any tracking
by default, it awaits instructions from some AT focus tracking logic.
You can get a crude polling-based mouse tracking with the '-m' command
line arg.
BTW, it sounds like your X config is busted somehow, if Carlos' patch
fixed it for you - doesn't that mean that it didn't find, and is not
using, DAMAGE/XFIXES? I thought that's what Carlos said...
