Wow history :) (i use libreoffice these days, but, i am on Linux)/

Check to see if Word Perfect has a setting e.g. to show the mouse
pointer position when you press control. Or anything to do with
modifier keys like caps  lock, num lock, scroll lock, caps lock etc.
