[Gimp-user] Gimp crashes on startup

Now even Gimp Portable crashes. Same error in Windows Events except of course
the path is now to my portable installation. I tried erasing the portable
installation folder and reinstalling it, but same result.

On a hunch, I also tried changing the Windows compatibility mode. Setting it to
Windows 8 or 7 definitely changed something; I now reach Gimp's main screen
(while the crash happened at the end of the splash screen until now), but in the
main window I immediately get the crash dialog. I finally managed to make Gimp
load using Vista SP1 compatibility.  But even then things are far from perfect:
I can save in xcf format, but file-jpeg.exe crashes when exporting.

This is getting very frustrating.
