Dear Gedit Developers and Users,
I am trying to compile and install gedit 3.8.1 on a cent OS 6.4 system.

A noble goal.  :)

When I run ./configure I get this error message:

checking for a Python interpreter with version >= 3.2.3... none
configure: error: no suitable Python interpreter found

I have Python 2.7.4 installed.

Is configure going to look for python 3?

Yes.  Starting with version 3.8, gedit uses Python 3 rather than Python 2.  See

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gedit-list/2012-November/msg00001.html

I have also tried to use the following option:

 ./configure --enable-python=no

but it did not help.

Hm.  I think that's a bug, so I've reported this at

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=702611
