Well, I cannot really be sure if it would help. libgnomeprint is almost
unmaintained unfortunately, which means that releases are not done very
often and distros end up shipping patched packages.

I seem to recall that a problem similar to what you describe is due to
an interaction between libgnomeprint and newer pango, but I also may be
totally wrong and the problem is somewhere else.
