GNOME doens't recognise companies as maintainers though, they recognise 
people. So even though Yorba sadly wound up,  I think Charles, Jim and 
Robert and are still the maintainers.

IANAL, but maybe the best thing to do would be to ask them personally 
what their plans are.

That's a shame. I hope they still submit patches back to the main code 
base. Maybe the Geary IMAP and UI parts could be split up as two 
projects, so the Elementary guys can go they own way with the UI, but 
we can all benefit from fixes to the IMAP engine.
