The supported search operators are listed in the F1 help.  We should find a way to display them more prominently or make them discoverable.  One idea we've had here is to take a play from gmail and show a popup UI when you focus the search entry with some text fields that search on specific columns.  (I know we've talked about this before, but I couldn't find a ticket for it, so I created one: <https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726657>).

There's currently no way to search for read or unread messages.  I've ticketed this at: <https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726661>.
