The idea is to hide columns that aren't being used.  Maybe i'm not
calling update_column_visibility in response to items getting added?
Or maybe the counter isn't getting updated properly?  If you add a
print state to the top of the function, what's the value of
widget->priv->number_of_rows_with_images  ? or do you not get any
output at all?
