Brandon:
You got to help me out more. Are you using gdmlogin or gdmgreeter?
Does setting GtkRC to a GTK+ Theme that you like make it look better?
If using gdmgreeter you can try the:
<greeter gtk-theme="themename">
syntax (GDM 2.14.0 and later only)
Try using a theme with a default font size you like. Changint the
default Xserver fontsize to something bigger would probably also make
the window bigger.
You could also put a bigger logo image in the window.
Note you can set "DOING_GDM_DEVELOPMENT=1" and run the /usr/lib/gdmlogin
and /usr/lib/gdmgreeter program from your session to see how it looks
without having to logout/login/etc. for testing.

Thanks; the problem was filesize and permissions. I had changed the
maximum pixel size of the icons, thinking that referred to the face
icons, but I hadn't set the filesize to be large enough to accomodate
the files. There was also an ownership problem which is fixed now.
I wonder, is it possible to make the GDM window bigger? I have all this
empty space on my monitor, and a tiny little 300-pixel window into which
I have to pile all the faces of all my users. I don't see a config
option for this anywhere, though.
Thanks again,
-Brandon
