Ah.... that's great :).

Yeah... OK... changelog might be the wrong place for the meta
information, true!
Anyway, just a quick idea I had:
What about the "classical" help menu (as defauklt for all desklets by
right-click) which contains some submenu-items
, like:
help -> About
-> ReadMe
-> License
etc.
Tha "About" is mandatory and contains all the meta data (what ever they
will be). The "Readme" and "License" will only be available/visible if
there is a README (or Deskletsname.README) file available in the
desklet's home dir (same with license - as some desklets come with the
entire GPL-2 text in a LICENSE file).
If you like to, you can also put a Changelog in there, but I guess this
should be part of the ReadMe ;).
This would be the the typical "standard Help menu" approach (I guess).
At least if you take the README file as some kind of Help
file/information ...
Just a quick idea ;).
