there's a huge difference:
* gtk approach:
 * use of gtk widgets
 * might look differently on other platforms
 * good rendering speed

* desklet approach:
 * uses adl tags
 * looks the same on other platforms
 * problems: current rendering speed of gD 0.36 (better in 0.40)
