Hearing about an NFS home directory reminds me of a incomaptibility
between Linux and Irix NFS where the Irix box was the NFS server and
had the directories exported from a filesystem created with xfs logs
version 1 which used a 64 bit value which caused Linux's readdir()
implementation to fail.
