hmmmm . select failsafe session from gdm console, and loggin as you
normally would.

you should see a xterm window on desktop .

delete temp files, and run gnome as shown below

	$ rm -rf /tmp/gconfd-rita
	$ gnome-session

let me know what is printed out by gnome-session, and if any other
messages are noticed in ~/xsession-errors file .
