I wanted to make sure I wasn't giving false information from before so I
deleted pretty much everything except my garchive directory and started
afresh, building inside the garnome-2.11-20050620.1710 rather than
specifying a WORKROOTDIR.

So this is a pretty simple install.

I did a make paranoid-install and let it run for a while. It's failed at
the point whilst building gnome-volume-manager:

checking for libgnomeui-2.0 dbus-glib-1 >= 0.31 hal >= 0.5.0 gtk+-2.0 >=
2.6.0... Requested 'dbus-glib-1 >= 0.31' but version of dbus-glib is
0.23.4

configure: error: Library requirements (libgnomeui-2.0 dbus-glib-1 >=
0.31 hal >= 0.5.0 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.6.0) not met; consider adjusting the
PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a
nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

make[1]: Leaving directory

At this stage I'm now going to build expat and dbus manually and then
return to the rest of desktop.
