There are a lot of varieties of the CC licenses, each with its degree of 
freedom and compatibility with GPL. The "non-commercial" one is simply 
not free and can't be used, other have uncertain status.

GPL or LGPL should be just fine.

Surely, you can use a even freer license, for example I released my own 
cards as Public Domain (http://www.nicubunu.ro/cards/).

Exactly this is the idea of GPL, to ensure freedom of the derivatives.

If you want, you can put your work under a dual license: GPL for Gnome 
and whatever you want for other uses.
