Sun has said they would have been much more comfortable having a
foundation to deal with, so they could clearly talk to representatives
of the GNOME Project as such, without mixing it with their role as
representatives of various corporations. They also said they really
want a foundation moving forward so that other companies feel like
they too have a way to come into the GNOME fold. So basically a big
part of the reason they were able to obtain this comfort level is the
knowlegde that we are forming a foundation.
