with Evolution data server 3.42, it's suggested the warning shouldn't
show anymore, if a workaround is done.

      Hi,
well, it's not a workaround, the contacts on the Google site are
accessed using CardDAV now. It doe snot add that much value as the
Contacts API, but there is currently no implementation of the People
API in the libgdata, thus the move to use a different protocol.

About those caveats, could you expand a bit on that? Are there
gotchas' one should be aware of with flatpaks in general or just with
the Evolution Mail flatpaks?

It's a sandbox, completely independent of the host system, not sharing
any data with it. It causes some issues due to this isolation, like
less desktop integration; one other being related to printing using
WebKitGTK:
https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fbugs.webkit.org%2Fshow_bug.cgi%3Fid%3D202363&data=04%7C01%7Csorin.srbu%40ki.se%7C827839a878f041b7783608d9df107052%7Cbff7eef1cf4b4f32be3da1dda043c05d%7C0%7C0%7C637786083958617357%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=KrWFKIo6Z7BKIH3rO9q4qhaEdxfJunHC6Y4BWkuPTnY%3D&reserved=0
though this one is not limited to the Flatpak only. There are more
noticeable differences in compare to the host system version, but
whether you'll notice them depends on your work flow. Some people may
not notice it at all. I mean, most things work pretty much the same as
the host system version, the differences come in play when one wants to
cooperate with the host system, where something called portals is
involved. I do not want to name all the known quirks, also because I
won't recall them. I'd say there are not that many functional
"problems", it's a reasonable price to get to the latest version, when
the distribution does not offer it for you (or when testing the latest
bits without being afraid of the host system data), though whenever the
distro provides the latest stable version I always suggest to prefer it
over the Flatpak version.

      Bye,
      Milan

Excellent elaboration, thanks!
