if I recall correctly, the trick is to have a meeting which has
detached instances (like when one instance is at a different time than
the others).
With respect of the initial question about difficulty, partly it is.
The itip-formatter module would need fixing to examine what events are
stored in the iCalendar attachment and act accordingly, both when
showing the information in the preview and when saving it into the
calendar. The preview might be more difficult.
